Bowl with Silhouette Scenes after Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach (1851–1913), Probably Vienna, after 1893
Brass bowl with wooden inlays depicting silhouettes from Karl Wilhelm Diefenbach’s cycle “Per Aspera ad Astra” (1888). The cycle was first exhibited in 1893 in Baden near Vienna, and again in Vienna in 1898, where it achieved great success. The series was published in book form in 1893 and reissued in a second edition on Capri in 1900.
The scenes correspond to catalogue entries WK 1.22–1.24 in Claudia Wagner’s dissertation (2007).
Height: 12 cm; diameter: 23 cm (excluding handles).
The foot ring is slightly indented in one area; otherwise, the piece is in excellent condition.
